Limestone and Raw Material Crushing
Crushing limestone, clay, and gypsum is the crusher hammer head’s main mission in the cement factory. Whether the crusher hammer can crush uniform particle size, high-yield raw material, besides the crusher hammer head’s property, also has a relationship to the raw material’s hardness, silica content, moisture content, silt content, feeding material, crusher speed, and other factors.
For example, if the cement plant has high requirements for yield and crusher speed, we must have higher requirements for the crusher hammer head’s hardness and toughness. Hammer heads with low hardness are prone to breaking, and those with poor toughness are also prone to fracturing during the machine’s high-speed rotation.
Another example is that if the raw material has higher moisture content, once the raw materials are fed into the crusher chamber, they are very easy to stick to the surface of crusher hammer heads, causing localized wear and leading to material failure.
The silicon content of the raw material also has extremely high requirements for the crusher hammer head: the higher the silicon content, the faster the wear of the crusher hammer heads.
So, SUPER will confirm the raw material details with you carefully. This is the only way we can provide you with products you can trust and that are right for you.

Clinker Crushing
Crushing clinker is another main mission of the crusher hammer in a cement factory. Unlike the raw materials, clinker has higher hardness; it is also crisp and has angular grains. Their impact loads always change, and combine impact and wear on the crusher hammer heads. Some clinker also has a higher temperature.
These properties require the crusher hammer heads to be harder, but not become brittle. They must have better impact resistance and toughness; the metallurgical structure must be uniform to avoid being “hard and brittle.”
Crushing clinker for a crusher hammer head is a challenging task.

Why Is Clinker Crushing a Demanding Hammer Application?
SUPER crusher hammer can crush clinker not only because of its sufficient hardness, but also because of other factors like better wear resistance in fixed temperature operation conditions and fine crusher operations.
Crusher hammer head must have impact resistance and wear resistance; these two are the main characteristics. When crushing the clinker, the first challenge to address is impact resistance. Crusher hammer head strikes a large piece of material head-on; continuous strikes of clinker at high working speeds require superior impact resistance to strike clinker to fine size. When the size of clinkers becomes smaller, the impact between the hammer head and clinkers will become friction and wear. Fine-particle-size clinker has more contact area with the crusher hammer head, and it can experience greater friction and wear during crushing; this requires the hammer head to have strong wear resistance.
The Effect of Temperature on the Performance of Hammer Heads. Because the initial temperature of clinker is higher, this lets the crusher hammer head start work at a higher temperature. So the crusher hammer head should have better thermal resistance. This can prevent the properties of the crusher hammer from changing at higher temperatures, reducing the crusher hammer head’s performance. SUPER crusher hammer heads also have better fatigue resistance. When the crusher hammer experiences long-term impact and wear, it can maintain excellent properties without degradation, thereby ensuring the crusher can operate at high performance.

Bimetal Crusher Hammers
Bimetal composite materials are used to solve the problem that a single material can not meet both sufficient hardness and wear resistance. During operation, the hammer working end experiences high impact force, and the hammer shank experiences enormous centrifugal force. So the shank needs premium toughness to ensure it will not break when it is subjected to impact forces from the working end. In response to this request, SUPER adopts bimetal composite material casting technologies. We use high chrome in the impact working end, which has outstanding wear resistance and hardness; cast steel in the hammer shank, which has excellent toughness and is not easy to break.
The application of this technology also requires ensuring that the two different materials bond effectively during the casting process. If they can not bond strongly, there will be different stresses in these two materials. When the hammer head is working, as time increases, different coefficients of thermal expansion cause the two materials to split, and the hammer head will break.
Bimetal composite material casting technology is SUPER’s most advantageous technology. After more than 40 years of technical expertise, SUPER has fully mastered it. It is adept at applying this casting technology, and our products have performed exceptionally well in both the Chinese and international markets.

Common Crusher Hammer Wear and Failure Problems
So, what are the typical signs of a poorly performing hammer head during operation? Generally, there are three main types: First, rapid surface wear; second, cracking and breakage of the hammer head; and third, uneven wear, causing abnormal vibration in the crusher.

Conduct an assessment of working conditions
We will know your crusher brands and models. We will confirm the dimension of the hammer heads you are using, the drawings, or the samples. We can also guide you to measure the dimensions of the crusher hammer head, and then provide them to us. Then we also need to know what raw materials you are using to produce cement, and how about the raw materials’ hardness and abrasion performance. We would also like to know the process details, such as the sizes of the feeding materials, the max size, the discharge size, the crushers’ production capacity, the rotor speed, the crushers’ working time, the raw materials’ temperature, moisture content, and silica content.
We would also like to collect the hammer head materials you are currently using to analyze them, know their lifetime, wear failure situation, collect failure photos and failure locations. We will start a preliminary assessment according to these above information. This will help us to get the right direction to produce the hammer heads.
We need to determine the failure mode of this hammer head.
Selecting the Right Materials and Structure
Manufacturing and Inspection of Hammer Heads
Throughout the entire production process for hammer heads, we follow a scientific, rational, and standardized production workflow. We strictly adhere to ISO standards, maintaining detailed records of every step—from raw material proportions to casting process control and heat treatment. These records are compiled in accordance with the requirements of our standard production workflow, which helps minimize performance inconsistencies between batches and ensures, to the greatest extent possible, that all products maintain consistent performance and stable quality across different batches.
After the hammer head has been manufactured, according to our standard inspection procedure, we will start different kinds of inspections. These inspection include chemical composition analysis, hardness testing, dimensional inspection, weight and wear resistance testing, metallographic examination, and ultrasonic testing. According to our inspection requirements, we will leave samples for every lot. When you find any quality issues after you receive the products, we can track the records quickly, test the sample again, and use our fastest time and working efficiency to find the reason and solve it from the roots.

How to Select a Clinker Crusher Hammer
1. We will confirm with you about your crusher types, crusher models, and hammer head shapes and accurate dimensions.
2. We will confirm again about the hammer head’s application, crushing clinker or other materials, to make sure they are manufactured correctly.
3. We will know your operating conditions to provide support for the designs and manufacturing. We need to know the machine operation speed, particle size of the feeding material, whether they have erosion, their impact strength, feeding quantity, the temperature of the clinker, and the entire working temperature.
4. We will inspect the current wear patterns and failure locations of your hammer heads to assess further whether our design of the hammer head’s material and shape is scientifically sound and reasonable, and whether it can improve work efficiency.
5. We will analyze each material’s characteristics, combine total costs, and decide which material is the best one to produce your hammer heads.
6. We also need to pay attention to whether the dimension is suitable for your crusher. When it is working in your crusher, can it maintain balance, reduce shaking, and operate normally and reliably to minimize damage to the crusher and prevent abnormal wear or damage to the hammer heads?
